Compumedics\u2019 equipment is now established in sleep centres in more than thirty hospitals throughout mainland China.<\/p>\n<p>Prof Xicheng Liu, head of the Centre for Pediatric Bronchoscopy and Pulmonary Function Laboratory at Beijing Children\u2019s Hospital will conduct pediatric sleep diagnostic and titration studies using Compumedics\u2019 Siesta sleep monitoring system.<\/p>\n<p>Compumedics\u2019 equipment will also be used in a joint research project with Australian Professor Colin Sullivan involving around 6,000 children at the Beijing hospital. Professor Sullivan, from Sydney\u2019s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, is a world-recognised authority on the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Sullivan explained: \u201cRespiratory and sleep related issues are becoming more prominent in China as the population ages. Worsening environmental factors including pollution, dust storms and burn-off from neighboring countries also exacerbate the prevalence of respiratory and sleep related problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With inclusion in the World Trade Organisation, China is now well positioned to collaborate with other countries on the development of diagnostic equipment and for the overseas training of their own physicians in specialised areas such as sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Sullivan\u2019s Centre at Sydney University is highly regarded by Chinese physicians for training in Australia.
