Compumedics announced today that it has been awarded the contract to equip the prestigious University of Surrey’s Human Psychopharmacology Research Unit (HPRU).

Compumedics Limited (ASX:CMP) announced today that it has been awarded the contract to equip the prestigious University of Surrey’s Human Psychopharmacology Research Unit (HPRU), one of the UK’s key medical research and clinical centres. Compumedics, is spear heading it’s European export drive with it’s world leading Siesta® wireless sleep and ProFusion NeXus® enterprise patient management software systems.
Compumedics Siesta® is a wireless sleep laboratory system that allows live monitoring of patient physiological signals from any computer connected to the hospital network. Profusion NeXus® is the latest in patient data and facility management software from Compumedics.

The sleep unit at the University of Surrey’s HPRU (Human Psychopharmacology Research Unit) Medical Research Centre, has been described as the finest in Europe. Its well earned reputation is the result of its international leadership in novel research and scientific investigations into sleep, and is maintained by a multidisciplinary team of academics that include the experience and knowledge of pharmacologists, clinicians, psychologists and nurses.
Compumedics equipment will be used to provide sleep data into the HPRU unique psychopharmacological database with profiles of over 220 psychoactive agents, including antidepressants, hypnotics, anxiolytics, herbal remedies, social substances, anti-dementia drugs and others. The database offers an objective and solid basis for the evaluation of new compounds and allows the development of reliable ‘proof of concept’ models for sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety and pain.

The HPRU’s sleep unit consists of six sleep and chronobiology bedrooms/laboratories as well as a 12-bed ward. Its purpose built sleep laboratories are equipped with the latest in sleep diagnostics solutions from Compumedics. The unique capabilities of ProFusion NeXus software facilitates the strict management of all experiments and data that conform to the latest ICP/GCP guidelines. The laboratories have the capacity to perform up to 18 sleep tests a night, including the facility to perform ambulatory/at-home studies.
The HPRU, which has been opened for two years, is a top research unit with a research rating of 5*, a high citation index and unique research facilities. The HPRU also provides a service to screen patients for clinical insomnia and sleep disorders – a service primarily designed for patients with non-breathing related sleep complaints.

Compumedics Limited General Manager Europe Sales and Marketing, Mr. David Loiterton stated, ”It is pleasing to see UK medical services and patients benefiting from our systems, particularly as the power of our wireless technology and patient management systems is starting to gain traction in our key markets around the world.”
